Research report - Civic Coding – Innovationsnetz KI für das Gemeinwohl

Research report

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) for the common good has enormous potential. It will change the way we live, work and behave in the long term. In contrast to science and business, the use of AI for societal purposes is still in its infancy. This leaves stakeholders in the field of AI for the common good with questions, challenges and unrecognised opportunities.

Based on qualitative expert interviews and case studies, the present study “Civic Coding - Fundamentals and Empirical Insights for Supporting AI for the Common Good” addresses the field of developing AI for the common good. It describes the prerequisites and requirements for the use of AI for the common good.

The study was conducted by the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) as part of the Civic Coding initiative. The results are intended to contribute to the design of frameworks, funding programmes and other measures for the development of AI applications for the common good.
